THE WORST REMOTE EVER! August 29, 2010 Alex H I picked this up thinking its made by GE and they generally make decent products but I was so wrong. There are several things that made this remote absolutely terrible. The buttons need to be pressed a little harder than usual for it to work and you have to literally point it directly at your TV. Some remotes can be pointed slightly in a different direction and work fine with less effort because they have good infrared coverage but this remote doesn't. If the battery moves or loses connection for just a split second (say if you change batteries or if you drop it by accident) it loses ALL its programmed devices so you have to program the codes all over again. I ended up just smashing it on the floor out of frustration.
Sized right for a basic remote July 22, 2010 open file If all you need is a simple remote with basic capabilities, you may like this one because it is smaller than many others and fits nicely in the hand.
When I first saw an image of it, I was afraid that it might be bulky and topheavy. On the contrary, it is just the opposite.
There's nothing exciting about a remote-- but this one works, is sized well, and uses a nice black/gray color scheme that avoids the gawdy look of some other units out there.
Basic remote, stiff rubbery buttons July 6, 2010 Amazon Shopper =) (Boston, MA United States) This is a good simple remote to replace or condense your remotes. I was looking for a cheap, replacement for a lost TV remote. This worked OK for most, but not all functions! The buttons feel stiff and rubbery, and the manual is moderate at explaining how to program the device. It's ok, just ok.
Nice item. Works well. June 26, 2010 Ira Solomon (Lowell, MA USA) A very nice item for the price. It took almost no time to set it to work with the TV. The instructions and list of TVs, etc. were fine. My only objection is that the batteries do not come with it. I always have just about every battery in the house. I'm a geek. But some people are going to be annoyed because they have to go to the store to get AAA batteries.
Ease Of Setup + Ease Of Use = A Winning Product! :) May 14, 2010 Blind man Wayne (JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most universal remote controls sold today are big, ugly, and overly complicated. They also can be rather expensive. This basic GE model #24991 is none of these. It is at least 25% smaller than the average remote control and very lightweight! Despite its noticeably small size, its keys are spaced apart nicely and are intelligently laid out. The ease of setup and compatibility with my components truly impressed me! I can operate my interconnected Panasonic TV, SONY DVD player, and Motorola cable box with this tiny remote control! NOTE: This remote control is designed to control the most basic functions of your TV and cable box such as switching power on and off, changing channels, and adjusting the volume. It also will control the basic functions of your VCR or DVD devices. In my humble opinion, its overall simplicity is one of its strong suits. If what you are looking for is a no-frills, no hassles, reliable, practical universal remote control with real bang-for-the-buck value, then your search is over! Highly recommended!
